A 15 year old boy from March has been arrested, following a fire at a bungalow in Benwick.

The boy was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, after flames broke out in a shed at a property in Chapel Lane at around 9:15pm last night (Thursday).

The fire then spread to the bungalow.

Residents in the Fenland village, near Peterborough, were advised to keep doors and windows closed and stay inside, due to smoke from the fire.

Firefighters had to cut away at pieces of the bungalow to allow them to completely extinguish the fire.

Crews managed to put the fire out by 11:25pm.

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Nine firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two jets, one hose reel and two hydrants to extinguish the fire, which had started in a shed and spread to a bungalow.

The fire was well developed in the roof space and involved oil tankers and gas cylinders.

Firefighters also used working at height equipment, ladders and cutting equipment to cut away at the property to fully extinguish the fire and put out any hotspots.

A thermal imaging camera was also used to check neighbouring properties to ensure the fire had not spread.

Crews returned to their stations by 1.10am.

A full fire investigation will be taking place today to determine the cause of the fire."
