March Sex Offender Jailed

A Cambridgeshire man who had sex with an underage girl has been jailed.

25 year old Richard Coveney [pictured - right] from Regent Avenue in March had sex with the girl more than 30 times.

The relationship started in August 2009 when Coveney gave the girl cannabis.

However it was not reported to Police for almost a year, until the victim who is now 15 told her mum.

During a trial at Cambridge Crown Court it also emerged Coveney sexually assaulted a 13 year old girl who came forward during the investigation.

An a separate incident last March, he assaulted a 14 year old girl and a 14 year old boy as they walked through his home town.

Coveney has admitted three counts of sexual activity with a child, supplying a Class B drug, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

He has been sentenced to three years in prison, been placed on the Sex Offenders Register and also made the subject of a Sexual Offences Prevention Order.

Detective Sergeant Amerjit Singh said: "Coveney is a dangerous man who preyed on vulnerable girls.

This conviction and sentencing sends a clear message that crimes like this are taken extremely seriously by the police and courts."
