A man from Peterborough, who sexually assaulted two young girls more than 20 years ago, has been jailed.

Johnnie Dawkins, 66, of Rosemary Gardens, Peterborough, was arrested after one of the girls reported him to police last year.

Following a long investigation he was charged with six charges of indecent assault on two girls aged under-16, with the offences dating back to the 1980s.

He failed to attend on the first day of his trial, but was arrested and brought back to Peterborough Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to four of the charges.

Dawkins, who already had convictions for indecently assaulting two other children, was jailed for a total of 32 months on Friday (November 23rd).

Detective Constable Gavin Sylvester, who investigated, said: "Dawkins is a repeat offender and clearly a danger to children.

"The victims in this case showed great bravery in coming forward so long after the offences were committed to ensure he was brought to justice."
