A convicted sex offender from Peterborough has been jailed after sexually assaulting another woman.

31 year old Nicky Smith, from Whittington, was released on licence for a rape he was convicted of in 2005 when he attacked the woman in her home in May last year.

He was a passenger in a car that picked up the 22 year old victim.

When she was dropped off in Peterborough, Smith followed her inside and sexually assaulted her.

He denied rape, but has just been convicted following a trial.

He has been given an indeterminate sentence and must serve at least three and a half years before he can apply for probation.

Detective Sergeant Adam Fraser said: "This was a nasty attack on a woman in her own home.

Smith is a dangerous individual with a history of offending. I hope the sentence offers the victim some closure and she is now able to move on with her life."
