East Coast Station & Property Director Tim Hedley-Jones, said: "Peterborough Station has had little investment in recent years, and East Coast identified it as a priority at the start of the franchise.

The increase in total services operated by East Coast which occurred in May 2011 means that Peterborough is an increasingly busy interchange."

Around five million passengers use Peterborough Train Station every year.

Next month, a £43 million Network Rail project will begin in at Peterborough station.

Extra platforms will be built to reduce congestion.
