A light aircraft has come down in a field on the edge of Peterborough, after crashing into an electricity pylon.

The plane has crashed into a field near Sibson Airfield, close to the A1.

It happened around 2:15pm this afternoon.

Emergency services have cordoned off the scene.

It's not yet known how badly injured the pilot is, and nobody else was on board.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch has been told about the incident.

The A1 has been shut north-bound at Haddon and south-bound at Wansford due to damage caused to over-head power cables.

National Grid engineers are on site to assess damage to the power lines, but there is no impact to power supply locally.
