A body has been pulled from the water in Spalding, near Pode Hole Pumping Station.

At around 1:00pm yesterday, employees of the Welland and Deeping Internal Drainage Board reported that they believed they'd seen a body in the water near to the Pumping Station at Bourne Road.

This is an area where several drains or waterways converge.

The Lincolnshire Police Under Water Search Unit (UWSU) was sent to the location and the body of a man was pulled out of the water.

The man was certified as dead at the scene.

Police say they believe they know the identity of the man, and are now trying to trace and inform his family and friends.

We're told a formal identification will take place at the earliest opportunity.

A post mortem examination will be required to establish the cause of his death and until that time officers are treating the death as unexplained.
