A man, tracked down after his footwear and fingerprints were found at the scene of a burglary, has been jailed.

Evaidas Baciulis, 22, of Ramnoth Road, Wisbech, broke into a home in Ollard Avenue, overnight on November 13th while the victim was in bed.

He used outdoor furniture to get in through a downstairs window left ajar before stealing a computer tower, a DVD player and a Wii console. The family dog woke the family up at around 2am barking and Baciulis escaped through the back door.

Scenes of crime officers recovered fingerprint marks on the window sill and a footprint on the outdoor furniture and identified Baciulis who was later arrested.

He admitted burglary along with a further two burglaries in Norwich Road and Ramnoth Road, on November 26th, he also admitted stealing a bottle of vodka from the Co-op in Horsefair, on November 13th.

Yesterday (Wednesday), Baciulis was jailed for 18 months at Cambridge Crown Court.

Detective Inspector Dave Murphy said: "I hope this sentence demonstrates the serious consequences of burglary.

"This type of offence is extremely stressful and disruptive for victims and I hope in this case the fact that justice has been done will afford them some comfort."

"Baciulis probably thought he had got away with but he had actually left forensic evidence at the scene of the crime which led us straight to him."
