Space Cowboys! Mercury Makes A Rare Transit Across The Sun
ScienceCasts: The 2016 Transit of Mercury (updated)
Scientists and celestial enthusiasts across the world gathered to watch the movement of Mercury across the sun in a special journey that only happens a few times a century.
In a rare astrological occurrence, Mercury could be spotted making a rare transit of the sun this week.
The amazing journey only occurs 13 times every century... so it was a pretty exciting event to catch!
Although it only lasted seven hours, the best bit is that you could see it across the whole world!

The crossing wasn't visible to the naked eye and stargazers had to be sure to take proper care when checking out the event and use a safe solar filter to protect their vision.
If you were lucky enough to see this tiny black dot moving across the bright, burning sun through a telescope, then it's surely something you won't forget in a hurry!
Fun fact: Mercury actually has a tail, but you won’t see this during the transit.
Nasa scientists used the magical spectacle to check up on Mercury’s ultra thin atmosphere and learn more about the planet.
