Sport for Everyone

Whatever age you are getting active will improve your fitness levels, help you lose weight, improve your health and prevent illness plus you'll look and feel better!

Often, the hardest part if getting active, is the first step.

You could be asking:

*Swimming:
 
Plymouth City Council Sports Development Unit is supporting a two year initiative to provide swimming FREE of charge for people aged 60 and over.

You can visit any of the below facilities and swim for free during public swimming times or at the specific sessions - please contact the pools for full information on sessions.

When you attend these sessions please bring proof of age e.g. yellow plymcard or bus pass.

Free Swimming Lessons:

If you are 11+ and struggle to swim 10 metres do not panic, the Sports Development Unit coordinate learn to swim programmes for free.

Each session is an hour long and will be delivered over 6 weeks by a qualified swimming teacher. 

There are currently 3 courses organised starting in the February, contact the Sports Development Unit on 01752 307008 or email: sportsdevelopment@plymouth.gov.uk.

There is limited availability so book early to avoid disappointment.

*Tennis Facilities:

Tennis is a great way of keeping fit. You can play with a few friends or with your family. Enjoyed by every age and every ability – you’re never too old or too young.

Did you know there are a number of public tennis courts across the city where you could play for as little as £3 per court/per hour.

Walks for people of all ages, ability & fitness, are availabe locally.

These are short guided walks around Central Park covering no more then two miles.

They are led by qualified walk leaders so nobody gets left behind!
