Award Winning Costumes Made In Plymouth

Costumes brought to the stage with the help of the Theatre Royal Plymouth's Wardrobe Department have won an Olivier Award.

10 of the costumes for the show 'Crazy for You', were made by the Theatre Royal Plymouth's Wardrobe Department, who interpreted drawings sent to them in order to create the costumes.

The designs were created by Peter McKintosh, who has also designed costumes and sets for The Witches of Eastwick, English National Opera and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The show is about a banker who just wants to dance, and takes the audience back to the heyday of the 1930s.  The production also won the award for Best Musical Revival.

Head of Wardrobe at the Theatre Royal, Dina Hall, said: "The designs for these costumes were stunning, with lots of bright colours and lovely clear drawings.

"They were great fun to make and we're thrilled that the costumes were appreciated."

The Olivier Awards were presented on Sunday 15 April and are among the most highly regarded in the industry, with past winners including Judi Dench, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Alan Bennett.
