For the past 5 months I’ve been busy getting my head down and my knees up...
...training for a 300 mile cycle from London to Paris this September.
I’m doing it for the incredible charity Mind, working for better Mental Health.
The ride is 4 days of tough endurance cycling and I actually cannot wait. I’ve been busy putting in the hours of training, most recently on Friday 19th August I rode from South East London to Richmond Park, on to Weybridge, then Windsor, Maidenhead, Reading, Didcot and finally Oxford. 100 miles. I never thought I would be able to do anything even close to that just a few weeks ago but I’m now feeling half decent about the ride ahead. Mind you getting up after the first 102 mile day and then pedalling another 75 miles is not the most exciting prospect if I’m honest.

The main reason I have enjoyed training – despite the long hours in the saddle and the hills (oh the hills…) is that for the first time in my life I have properly seen the country we live in. Cycle training doesn’t usually involve any road as busy as a dual carriageway instead I have pedalled along some truly beautiful country lanes. I cannot recommend the experience enough. Every ride provides a plethora of woodlands, fields, rivers and stunning views, not to mention all the little villages and interesting houses you get to take in.
