The best spots around Scotland to find your Christmas decorations, advent calendars and get your season of festivities in full swing.
So, it's the first week of December and that means it's time to get in to the Christmas spirit! We've pulled together a list of the best places in Scotland to kick off your festive season.
It doesn't matter if it's real or fake, it's a Christmas staple and a MUST to kick off the festive period. However, we really are spoiled for choice in Scotland when it comes to the "real thing". Wherever you live, from Glasgow to Fife, Caring Christmas Trees has some of the best trees available. They boast a whole mix coming in all different shapes and sizes as well as a whole array of decorations to go alongside. So, gather the family, get the tinsel and baubles ready and let's kick off the festive season in style.
Father Christmas' Grotto
If you are popping past Dobbie's Garden Centre in Stirling the Grotto is must see with a theme like no other. Locally designed by an artist, the Grotto follows the Magical White Hare through the frosty winter woodlands and across the starry northern lights to collect the “Charms of Christmas” from the four Christmas Angels. Bring the kids along to meet Claus, pass over their Christmas list and leave with a special toy from Father Christmas himself.
This year it's Christmas markets galore and we're spoiled for choice in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. If it's food and a few glasses of mulled wine you are after, George Square is filled with cuisines of the world and a huge festive bar which hosts live music throughout the day. As always the Edinburgh Princes Street markets offer up the ultimate Christmas market experience, perfect for all the family - you can pick up authentic Christmas decorations from the stalls, enjoy some food and take the kids around the Christmas Maze and amusements.
Christmas Panto & Shows
Kings Theatre Panto season is here! King's Theatre is showcasing Sleeping Beauty from 5th December - 7th Jan. With magic, music, comedy and special effects, it's sure to make the perfect family day out!
FTH Theatre has a family favourite playing all this week... Peter Pan! Take yourself away to Neverland, or Falkirk for that matter for a Christmas panto special.
Get your skates on and glide around the magical ice at Melville Monument in St Andrew Square. The rink will be set up from now until 6th January 2018, so hop on for that 360 degree glide around under the festive lights. Did we mention, there's a bar to grab some mulled wines and hot chocolates too. Paisley's Winterfest also has an open air ice rink, perfect for wrapping up warm and grabbing the family for some fun on the ice. The town centre's Winterfest is packed with Christmassy food & drink stands serving everything from prosecco to gluhwein, hot Cider, hot chocolates and german sausages and snacks!
