10 Year Old Cyclist Collides With Car
A 10-year-old girl is in hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a car when she was riding her bike.
The youngster was on the A71 in West Calder, West Lothian, when she was struck by a black Nissan Micra on Saturday evening.
Emergency services were called to the scene, at Burngrange Cottages, following the crash at around 6.10pm.
Police Scotland said paramedics from the Scottish Ambulance Service provided medical care to the girl, who had sustained serious head injuries,
She was taken to the Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Sergeant Roger Park, of Police Scotland's trunk road patrol group, said: ''We have spoken to the driver of the vehicle. However I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or indeed anyone who was in the area at the time and who has relevant information to contact police on 101 or the registered charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.''
The collision happened just three days after another road crash involving a child in Scotland.
Robbie Quigg, six, died after being struck by a car on Cumberland Road in Greenock, Inverclyde, on Wednesday.
Robbie, a pupil at the town's St Andrew's Primary, was described as a ''shining light'' by his head teacher.
The 26 year old was first targeted in Briarscroft Road.
Euan Johnston was shot in his car last month.
The family of three crash victims took their case for the 59-year-old to be put on trial to the Appeal Court in Edinburgh earlier this year.
