A prisoner who absconded from an open jail has been traced by police.

Anthony McGinley, 33, had failed to return to HMP Castle Huntly, near Dundee, following a period of home leave.

Officers, who launched an appeal for information on his whereabouts on Wednesday, have confirmed he is now back in custody.

A force statement said: "Police Scotland can confirm that absconder Anthony McGinley, missing from HMP Castle Huntly, has been traced in the Paisley area and is in custody.
