Firefighters are tackling a large blaze in a former hospital in Edinburgh.

Crews were called to the former Royal Victoria Hospital site in the capital at around 4.15pm on Monday when thick smoke started billowing from the building.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said nine crews were involved in the incident.

There are not thought to be any injuries.

A spokeswoman said: "Crews were called this afternoon to a fire in a derelict former hospital building.

"It has been upgraded to a level three incident with nine crews and pumping appliances in attendance.

"The incident is ongoing.''
