Car Windscreen Smashed By Wine Bottle
Police are asking for the public's help to identify a group of people, seen with a man who dropped a bottle on to a moving car from a footbridge.
They were walking over the A89, about a quarter of a mile east of Pumpherston Road in Broxburn at around 8.20pm on Saturday.
As the group crossed the bridge, one was seen dropping a bottle of what appeared to be wine from the bridge which then smashed the windscreen of a vehicle passing underneath.
The white Ford Fiesta was being driven by a female health care worker and her colleague on their way to Livingston. The bottle smashed its windscreen and the two women were showered with shards of glass and what appears to be wine.
Sergeant Darren Cook said: "This was an incredible act of stupidity which could have had catastrophic consequences.
"The two female occupants of the car escaped serious injury on this occasion, although the passenger did receive minor cuts to her hands and arms.
"This could have ended in a tragedy.
"We are keen to trace this group of people who were on the pedestrian bridge and were walking from the Broxburn side of the bridge to the Uphall Station side. They are only described as being in their late teens/early twenties, and the one who dropped the bottle was a male.
"No further descriptions are available at this time. The group made off towards Uphall Station when the car stopped. I would ask anyone who can help identify this group to call us on 101."
