'Hen, We're Millionaires' Says Lottery Winner

A taxi driver who won a £1 million Euromillions prize broke the news to his wife by telling her: "Hen, we're millionaires.''

Arthur Howard, 73, from East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, quit his job after winning the prize on Friday. He is now planning a holiday with wife Emma in Dubai.

His son Allan told the East Kilbride News: "My mum was puzzled when she came home and saw everyone at the windows.

"She had no idea what was going on. My dad took her hand and, through tears, said, 'Hen, we're millionaires'.

"It's without a doubt the happiest time of our lives. My mum and dad aren't drinkers but the champagne came out after that.''

Kelvin Kabs manager Allan Black said Mr Howard told him he was leaving his job at the weekend.

He said: "Obviously we're delighted for him. We'll miss him but he's a good age, so he's quite right to hang up his keys and I think he might be passing it on to his son.

"It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. He's well-known and popular with the locals, who I'm sure will wish him well.''

Camelot said the money had not yet been claimed but it continues a long run of luck with the lottery in Scotland.

Last month, David and Carol Martin, from Hawick in the Borders, celebrated winning half of the record £66 million National Lottery jackpot.

Five years ago, Colin and Chris Weir, from Largs, North Ayrshire, collected the UK's biggest-ever win when they claimed more than £161 million in the Euromillions in 2011.
