A man killed in a ''brutal and violent attack'' in his own home has been named by police.
Kilmarnock Attack 'Attempted Murder'
Detectives are treating an "extremely violent attack'' which left a man seriously hurt as attempted murder.
The 38-year-old was assaulted by two men who entered a property in the Hareshaw Gardens area of Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, at around 11.10pm on Saturday, police said.
He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital where staff describe his condition as serious.
Detective Inspector William McDicken said: "This was an extremely violent attack which has left a man fighting for his life in hospital.
"Officers are carrying out inquiries locally and extra patrols will be in the area to provide reassurance to the local community.''
He asked anyone with information to contact officers by calling 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
