Major Overhaul For T In The Park Site

T in the Park bosses have changed the layout of the festival arena to avoid bottlenecks and increased security as part of a major redesign.

The size of the main arena this year will increase by a third and all of the biggest music stages, including the main stage, Radio 1 stage, King Tut's Wah Wah Hut tent and the slam tent, will be relocated to new, improved areas.

The King Tut's tent will have open sides to allow more festivalgoers to watch performances.

Festival organisers said the new design will ensure there is no congestion or bottlenecks and will give fans significantly more space.

There will also be more stewards across the site, overseen by new zone managers who will be directly linked by radio to festival management.

Clearer signs and directions throughout the arena and more easily-identifiable help teams are also part of the changes.

Announcements on changes to the campsite and transport are expected to be made in the next fortnight.

At last year's festival, the first at the new site at Strathallan, Perthshire, fans faced lengthy delays and traffic queues.

Festival director Geoff Ellis said: "Our fans are our number-one priority and we've listened to all of their feedback from last year and now we're putting that into action.

"These changes will ensure that watching the wide array of amazing artists at the stages, as well as moving around the main arena, will be much more comfortable and a positive experience for all fans, ultimately making T in the Park 2016 a year to remember for all the right reasons - brilliant music and outstanding entertainment enjoyed with your best mates.''

Colin Brown, head of security at T in the Park, said: "This year, fans will notice a visible increase in the numbers of stewards on hand in the main arena.

"These stewards will be fully briefed to ensure they can provide fans with the correct information.''

Calvin Harris, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and The Stone Roses are headlining at this year's festival.
