Man Arrested After Attack On Deaf Couple

A man has been arrested in connection with an alleged attack on an elderly deaf couple in their sheltered housing flat.

An 81-year-old man and his 80-year-old wife were taken to hospital after an incident in Abercromby Street in the east end of Glasgow on Thursday evening.

They were said to be in a stable condition at Glasgow Royal Infirmary where the woman was receiving treatment for facial injuries and a broken hip and the man for injuries to his face and hand.

Officers said the alleged attack took place after a stranger followed the husband home from a nearby chip shop.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.''
