Man arrested after handbag robberies in Glasgow

A man has been arrested after a series of handbag robberies in Glasgow which left four women with minor injuries and in a state of shock.

The incidents took place across the city on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

On Tuesday at around 3.30pm a 22-year-old woman had her handbag snatched at Beaconsfied Road and suffered a minor injury. She did not require medical attention.

At 6.25pm on the same day an 18-year-old woman had her handbag taken at Armadale Street and suffered a minor injury. She was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary and discharged after treatment.

On Tuesday at 9.25pm a 28-year-old woman had her bag snatched at Great Western Road, close to St George's Cross, and suffered a minor injury, but did not require medical attention.

At around midnight on Wednesday, a 47-year-old woman was robbed of her handbag outside Tesco Extra on Dalmarnock Road. She sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and discharged after treatment.

A man aged 20 has been detained in connection with all four incidents and is expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court, police said.
