Man Deliberately Knocked Down By Car Driver In Life-Threatening Condition
A man is in a life-threatening condition in hospital after he was deliberately struck by a car in an attempted murder.
The 32-year-old was walking with three friends in Jamaica Street, Glasgow, when he became involved in an altercation with another man.
That man then got into a dark-coloured VW Golf and drove the wrong way up Jamaica Street, hitting the 32-year-old near to Midland Street.
The vehicle then sped off against the flow of traffic, turned left into Argyle Street and then possibly Oswald Street before crossing the river to the south side.
The victim was seriously injured in the incident and was taken to the city's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.
Police are treating the incident, which happened shortly before 1am on Wednesday, as attempted murder.
Detective Inspector David MacGregor, of Glasgow city centre CID, said: ''The man was walking in Jamaica Street with three male friends when he became involved in an altercation with another man.
''That man then got into the VW Golf and drove the wrong way up Jamaica Street and hit him.
''The driver then made off north on Jamaica Street, turned west under the Hielanman's Umbrella, Argyle Street and then possibly into Oswald Street - against the flow of traffic - on to the south side.
''None of the man's friends were injured but he sustained multiple injuries and is in a very serious condition in hospital.
''Officers remain at the scene carrying out enquiries with street, commercial and private CCTV being reviewed.
''There were a number of people in Jamaica Street at the time of the incident, a number of whom have already come forward and, indeed, who tried to assist the injured man until the ambulance arrived.
''However, we are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area and who has not been spoken to by police and would encourage them to come forward.''
The road was closed for several hours following the incident but had reopened by 1.10pm.
Blair Logan poured petrol on his younger brother Cameron, and the bed he was sharing with Rebecca Williams as they slept at their family home in Milngavie, in the early hours of January 1.
The men, aged 32 and 33, have been detained by police in relation to an alleged shooting incident in Glasgow.
