A man was taken to hospital with injuries to his head and face after a man got out of a passing car and attacked him as he walked along a street.

The 23-year-old was seriously assaulted at around 8pm on Saturday in the Partick area of Glasgow, Police Scotland said.

He was walking on Exeter Drive near its junction with Dumbarton Road when the incident happened.

The suspect then got back in his car and drove off.

Passers-by came to help and the man was taken by ambulance to hospital where he was treated for head and facial injuries. He was later released.

Detective Constable David Hardie said: "We believe this to be a targeted attack and officers are carrying out inquiries in the area today and checking CCTV footage in an effort to gather more information on the circumstances surrounding this attack and the man responsible.

"At this time, I would ask anyone who witnessed this crime take place to come forward to police as they may have information that will assist our inquiries.''

There is no description of the suspect but he was driving a grey BMW, police added.
