Trio Released In Teenager Midlothian Death Prove
A woman and two teenagers who were arrested following the death of a 16-year-old girl in Midlothian have been released.
The 42-year-old woman and two teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act on Monday following the death of Shellie Callaghan over the weekend.
Ms Callaghan reportedly fell ill at a house party in Newtongrange and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where she died on Saturday October 15.
Police Scotland issued a drugs warning following the teenager's death and were following a line of inquiry that she may have had access to "ecstasy-type tablets'' known as "red bugatti veyron'' and "purple ninja turtle''.
The three women were charged after police searched properties in Newtongrange, Gorebridge and Easthouses on Monday.
They were expected to appear in Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday but were released before the hearing took place.
A Crown Office spokesman said: "The procurator fiscal received a report concerning three females aged 43, 17 and 16 in connection with an alleged incident said to have occurred in Newtongrange, Midlothian, on October 14 2016.
"After full and careful consideration of the facts and circumstances of the case, they were liberated from custody and did not appear in court. The report remains under consideration.''
Officers said that inquiries into the death of Ms Callaghan are continuing.
