Woman, 70, Dies Days After Sheltered Housing Complex Incident

A woman has died nine days after an incident at a sheltered housing complex.

The 70-year-old woman was taken to hospital following the incident on April 9.

Police and emergency services were called to an address at Priorwood Court, Melrose, at around 4.45pm that day following a report of concern for a woman.

She was taken to Borders General Hospital for treatment and died on Tuesday April 18.

A 69-year-old man appeared in court in connection with the incident last week.

David Thomson was charged with attempted murder when he appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court on April 11.

He did not enter a plea and was remanded in custody.

Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Healy said: ''This is a tragic set of circumstances, and our thoughts are with the lady's family at this distressing time.''

Police said they are treating it as an isolated incident.
