A 49-year-old woman has died after a fire at a flat in Paisley.

The emergency services were called to the blaze at Fairway Avenue in the Renfrewshire town shortly after 4pm on Monday.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and found the body of the woman inside the flat.

Police are appealing for information.

Detective Sergeant Ian Ross said: ``Our enquiries are at an early stage to gather more information on this fire and a joint investigation will be carried out with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire.

"At this time, I would ask anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact Paisley police office through the 101 number.''
