Adele: Best of UK and Ireland

Adele has been voted Best UK & Ireland Act of the "2011 MTV Europe Music Awards".

The star beat Florence & The Machine, Coldplay, Jessie J and Kasabian to take home the prize which will be presented in Belfast next month.

Adele will now compete with 22 fellow winners from across Europe for the chance to represent the continent in the 2011 MTV EMA Worldwide Act category. The artist representing Europe at the 2011 MTV EMA will be announced later this month along with nominees from Latin America, North America, Asia Pacific and Africa/India/Middle East. The five regional nominees will then battle for votes for the 2011 MTV EMA Worldwide Act distinction, and the winner will be named live at the 2011 MTV EMA in Belfast on 6 November.

The 2011 MTV EMA will be hosted by Selena Gomez.  Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jessie J, LMFAO, Snow Patrol and Jason Derulo are confirmed to perform. Lady Gaga leads the pack of EMA nominees with six nods, with Katy Perry and Bruno Mars following closely behind with four nominations. Adele, Justin Bieber and Thirty Seconds To Mars are each up for three awards.
