Horse fly named after Beyonce

A horse fly with golden colourings that has been newly discovered in Australia has been named after Beyonce.

Bryan Lessard, a 24-year-old researcher at Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, has reportedly said that the horse fly’s golden bottom is ‘bootylicious’, referencing the Destiny’s Child hit single.

Lessard is said to have wanted to pay respect to the insect's beauty by naming it Scaptia (Plinthina) beyonceae. The species had been sitting in a fly collection since it was captured in 1981 – the year Bey was born.

The researcher has purportedly claimed that the singer would be ‘in the nature history books forever.’
