Cheryl urged to make X-Factor return

Amanda Holden has urged Cheryl Cole to return to the UK X Factor because she thinks she will regret it otherwise.

The 40-year-old actress, who is a judge on another of Simon Cowell's shows, Britain's Got Talent,  said the star should not cut ties with the singing programme after reportedly being dropped by the American X Factor last week.

"There is dark talk of Cheryl snubbing a return to British X Factor. Please do not do this. You will regret it for a long time," Holden told the BBC.

It comes as it is reported that 27-year-old Cole is in talks to become the face of the corporation's rival show The Voice - an American programme which BBC1 boss Danny Cohen is reportedly keen to bring to Britain.

It was initially thought the Girls Aloud singer may return to her former judging role on the UK version of the ITV talent show.

However the show's executives are said to have withdrawn their offer on Sunday evening.

Cole is believed to have refused to take phone calls from show's TV executives, including Cowell, to discuss the option of returning to the show.

As a result, they reportedly decided to end their interest in bringing her back to the UK programme.

Filming for the new series of the UK X Factor is to start on Wednesday and Tulisa Contostavlos, from hip hop group N-Dubz, is confirmed to have signed a deal to join the judging panel.

She will appear with Take That singer Gary Barlow, US pop star Kelly Rowland and long-serving judge Louis Walsh.

Following Cole's return to the UK, it has emerged that the singer was under pressure to lose as much as two stone ahead of her ill-fated appearance on the US X Factor.

She is said to have been advised by an unnamed executive at the Fox network that she would need a huge image makeover if she wanted to win over American audiences.

Cole - who lost a dramatic amount of weight following a bout of Malaria last year - is said to have enlisted the help of celebrity personal trainer Tracy Anderson to try to achieve a more svelte physique after developing a curvier figure since her illness.
