Lady Gaga speaks up about weight battle

The singer opens up about her body image struggle at a conference.

Speaking of her illness at a young women's conference hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger's estranged wife, Maria Schriver, Lady Gaga has revealed she struggled with bulimia as a teen.

'I wanted to be a skinny little ballerina,' she explained 'but I was a voluptuous little Italian girl whose dad had meatballs on the table every night.'

'I'm gonna say this about girls. The dieting wars have got to stop,' the 25-year-old New Yorker continued. 'Everyone just knock it off! Because at the end of the day, it's affecting kids your age.'

Lady Gaga overcame her battle with bulimia in order to prevent stomach acid damaging her vocal cords.

Earlier this week, the hit maker announced the first dates of her 110 date Born This Way Ball tour.
