Michael Jackson: 2 years on
Saturday marks the second anniversary of the death of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson.
The multi-million selling entertainer died in Los Angeles, on June 25th 2009 days before he was due to open at London’s 02 with his 'This Is It' comeback tour.
Sister Janet Jackson returns to the UK this week as part of her ‘Number Ones up Close and Personal tour’ performing some of her greatest hits, including ‘Scream’ her 1995 hit with Michael. Speaking exclusively to Heart, Janet revealed that performing the song is still a special moment for her, during the show; "It’s therapeutic, you know and it makes me smile inside. I mean the energy of the song is fierce but makes it makes me smile inside when I hear him, when I hear his voice…"
Around the world, fans are planning to pay tribute to Michael at events with British fans meeting at the Apollo Theatre, in London, the home of the musical ‘Thriller Live.’
Speaking from New York, singer Alicia Keys told Heart that Michael's music will live on forever. "Not only was he one of the most inspiring and influential performers of all time but he was also an amazing human being, a man who really dedicated his life and time to charity and philanthropic work. He remains a legend who will never be forgotten and we all miss him just the same as we always did. I don’t think we can ever thank him enough for all did for the world."
Janet Jackson starts her first of three shows at the Royal Albert Hall on June 30th.
Michael Jackson auction:
Over the weekend a number of pieces of Michael memorabilia will go under the hammer in the Beverly Hills including the jacket he wore in the 14 minute Thriller video.
The jacket is expected to fetch anywhere between £123,000 to £246,000.
Martin Nolan, executive director of Julien's Auctions said, "[it may] make a record for us here in the auction house, perhaps even make a record for the most expensive item of clothing ever sold from a celebrity."
Other Jackson memorabilia up for sale include the singer's glove, a wig he wore at the 2009 London press conference announcing the This Is It Tour and a fedora he wore on stage.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Thriller jacket will benefit The Shambala Preserve current home to tigers who used to live at Jackson's Neverland Ranch.
