China ban host of stars

Songs by Lady Gaga, Take That and Katy Perry amongst those banned by their government.

China's culture ministry have blacklisted over a hundred songs on the internet and companies based in China have until 15th September to remove the tracks or face prosecution.

Officials at the heart of the decision say the songs in question harm "National cultural security."

The tracks include Gaga's The Edge of Glory, Katy Perry's Last Friday Night, and Beyonce's Rule The World as they contain either expletives or innuendos, but there are also some puzzling omissions.

For example, The Backstreet Boys song I Want it That Way and Britney Spears' Burning Up have also been made taboo.
