Talent show contestants too young, says Barlow

Gary Barlow thinks young hopefuls are too fragile to take criticism but Tulisa disagrees.

Barlow and Take That band mate Robbie Williams have both said that young talent show contestants are too sensitive to cope with rejection.

Gary, who is currently a judge on the X Factor, has had to deal with hopefuls' breakdowns first hand and now thinks that the minimum age of 16 to appear on the show may be too young.

"Sixteen is just too young to be in a competition with this kind of pressure" Gary has told the Daily Mail "but some 16-year-olds are more mature than others".

Robbie agrees with his band mate. "I do think 16 is a bit young but when you get an opportunity you just grab it. If it was my son or my daughter I don’t think I would be pushing them that early"

"At 16... it is amazing how much of your hopes, dreams, wants become all about this." continues Robbie "And if you don’t get it then everything is broken."

However Tulisa has defended featuring hopefuls as young as 16 on the show - saying rejection helps toughen them up.

She doesn't think contestants can "ever be too young" as the series prepares them for the realities of the music industry.
