BAFTAs 2010 - The Winners

It's been a great night for the BRITs at the BAFTAs.

Colin Firth and Carey Mulligan have taken the top awards while Iraq war drama The Hurt Locker claimed the best director and best film gongs.

Firth won 'Leading Actor' for his role in A Single Man, while newcomer Mulligan was awarded the leading actress prize for her part in An Education.

Upon receiving his award, Firth said: "What [director] Tom Ford doesn't know is I have the email in my outbox telling him I could not possibly do this. I was about to send this when a man came to repair my fridge... I don't know what's best for me so I would like to thank the fridge guy."

As Mulligan took her award, she shook with emotion and told the audience: "I really didn't expect this at all so I didn't think of anything to say. I wish I could do a speech like Colin Firth and talk about fridges but I can't."

Earlier, director Quentin Tarantino, young Irish actress Saoirse Ronan and American actress Gabourey Sidibe were among popular arrivals on the red carpet.
