Your Song Rita Ora
The New Album - Released 8th March
8th March 2010 will see Boyzone release their brand new album, Brother; an album that sees the four Boyz coming together to pay very special tribute to their friend, companion, wingman and brother; Steo.
10th October 2009 saw the world facing the very sad loss of Stephen Gately. As part of the chart-topping band Boyzone, Stephen shared the success of four number one albums, a record-breaking 16 consecutive top five singles and numerous sell-out tours, the last of which was in June 2009. This tour saw all five members (Keith Duffy, Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch, Stephen Gately and Mikey Graham) having the time of their lives, leaving them high on life and all hugely excited about getting back into the studio to start work on their new album.
With work already well underway, the album was put on hold following the tragic passing of Stephen and the Boyz took time to regroup and work out what the future held for them. There were some tough decisions to be made, not least whether this album should ever see the light of day.
They treasured the vocals that Stephen had recorded, making the experience in the studio a hard and troubling time, but one which only served to bring the group even closer together.
The finished product is an album that all of the Boyz are incredibly proud of. It showcases a new sound and direction for the group and takes them down a road that is more heavily driven by rockier pop; anthemic, catchy choruses and huge melodies demonstrate how the Boyz sound has grown and progressed, without straying too far for their well established pop roots. The album is produced by Grammy nominated producer, Greg Wells, who has worked with the likes of Katy Perry, OneRepublic, Natasha Bedingfield, Mika and Timbaland.
Upbeat and infectious tracks like Love Is A Hurricane (written by New Radicals front man, Gregg Alexander) sit alongside the soulful Let Your Wall Fall Down and of course the enchanting single, Gave It All Away, which was written by Mika and features some of the last vocals that Stephen ever recorded.
Says Ronan of the album, "We are all incredibly proud of this album. It is a whole new sound for us as a band and the feedback so far has been brilliant. It has given us a new energy and focus and we can't wait for people to hear it. It was the best tribute we could wish for to pay tribute to Steo."
As they step forward after what was a heart-breaking and life-changing year for them, 2010 sees Boyzone at a new beginning; a new chapter in their ongoing journey and a celebration of all that was, and more importantly now, what is to come.
Brother is released on Polydor on 8th March
