Following their engagement we take a look at Jen and Justin's relationship in photographs and ask Jenni Trent Hughes, relationship expert at eHarmony.co.uk her thoughts on love in your 40s
Jennifer Aniston met actor Justin Theroux on the set of the film 'Wanderlust' in which they starred together. Love blossomed and the pair got together in May 2011
Justin Theroux studied visual arts at university but soon after graduating he fell in love with acting. The 41 year old has had parts in many TV shows and films, including Sex and The City, Zoolander and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle
Jennifer Aniston is one of the finest comedic actresses of her generation and she loves a funny man. Handsome Theroux has written the screenplay to Zoolander 2 and Rock of Ages - the perfect man for Jen! 'There are certain advantages to being in your 30s or 40s' says Jenni Trent Hughes 'because chances are you know yourself a bit better now than you did when you were in your 20s. One of the most important aspects of choosing the partner who is right for you is knowing yourself first. If you don't know who you are then how are you going to know who you are compatible with? If you don't know how you feel about some of life's big questions then how will you know who can answer them with you?'

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux leave their New York flat in his and hers outfits. Already a sign of commitment? 'Often when we get married for the first time' says Jenni Trent Hughes 'we just see the fairytale aspects but once you've seen a fairytale turn into a nightmare you become much more cautious. This is a good thing because on the second time around you tend to put maximum effort into making sure the components of this new person are more compatible with who you are and you're less likely to feel 'oh it will all work out somehow.'
Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux enjoyed a break in Paris this summer. The couple were rumoured to be getting engaged already, but the public had to wait a little longer...

Justin Theroux proposed to Jennifer Aniston on his 41st birthday, on August 10th. The news was confirmed two days later by Theroux's spokesperson, who said 'Justin Theroux had an amazing birthday on Friday, receiving an extraordinary gift when his girlfriend, Jennifer Aniston, accepted his proposal of marriage'
Aniston has been married once before, famously to Brad Pitt, whilst Theroux has never tied the knot before. 'The success of your 2nd or 3rd marriages usually depends on what you've learned from the non-successful ending of your first' says Jenni Trent Hughes 'However take heart! Second and third marriages have many benefits. Often you will now have a much better idea of what you really need. You've matured, the blinkers are off and you know that the guy with the six-pack abs might be nice to have but that actually one who's willing to hoover and change nappies - along with making your heart skip a beat when he walks into the room - is a better choice.'
