'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'

Everything about 'Harry Potter' is magical, but nothing gets kids giggly with excitement like the flying lesson scene in 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone'. Remember the moment Neville gets literally carried away? Bless him!

When the first movie hit cinemas all we could think was, 'check out all the amazing actors!'. From the late, great Alan Rickman to Dame Maggie Smith, the debut Potter movie really had clout!

'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'

From cakes falling on people's heads to flying cars, this movie was full to the brim of amazing scenes for kids. It also introduced Gilderoy Lockhart as the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher and those very troublesome pixies.

For adults, this was the first movie where Harry was genuinely faced with death-defying odds. The creepy Basilisk had us all wondering what was coming next and we loved the moment he stabbed Tom Riddle's diary, unknowingly destroying the first Horcrux. Amazing stuff!

'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban'

This film had a completely different vibe to the previous two, but kids lapped it up thanks to the Night Bus, the Boggart in the wardrobe scene and the introduction of the Marauder's Map.

For adults this film was absolutely made by two incredible scenes; the first was Hermione punching Draco Malfoy (we all cheered!) and the second was the introduction of the Time Turner...who hasn't prayed for a way to be in two places at once! We're sorry kids, but the old folks win this one hands down.

'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'

The Quidditch World Cup, dragons, mermaids, the Yule Ball...this whole film was incredible. Ron having to cope with his frilly dress robes made the children guffaw, but it was the underwater rescue scene that had them on the edge of their seats.

For anyone over the age of 20, this movie gave a fascinating insight into the wider 'Harry Potter' universe. We loved the introduction of the Durmstrang Institute and the Beauxbatons Academy, but nothing gave us chills like the death of Cedric Diggory - now that was scary stuff for a 'Harry Potter' movie.

'Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix'

Yep, 'Order of the Phoenix' wins the battle of kids versus adults for two reasons...Fred and George! The scene of them flying through the exam hall and setting of fireworks is one of the best in the whole franchise!

Everyone hates Dolores Umbridge, but as an adult you can't help but compare her to your hideous boss or a nasty politician on the news. Children understand that Voldemort is evil, but it is only adults who understand exactly how evil Dolores is...

'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince'

Seamus and his exploding potions...literally nothing else matters in this movie apart from that scene if you're under the age of 10!

Rupert Grint showed his comic timing to perfection in this movie, which gave us grown ups something to cackle about. Plus, teens were introduced to the placebo effect pretty nicely thanks to Felix Felicis. There's something quirky and dark about this movie, so we're giving a point to the adults on this one!

'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part One'

Dobby the house elf may be the most annoying character in the whole series, but some reason kids love the big-eared little monster. Seeing the sock-stealing terror save the day was the highlight of this movie for children...

Real human emotions, arguments and awkward love trysts played a part in this fantastic film, and who can forget that moment when a partially naked image of Harry and Hermione getting it on was presented to Ron...CRINGE!!! Adults win just for the grown-up factor.

'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part Two'

Neville Longbottom gets his moment in the spotlight in the grand finale - even killing the evil snake Nagini and standing up to Voldemort when he thinks Harry has been killed. It's an amazing moment of bravery, and kids really love the underdog story.

It may go over the heads of your average 10-year-old, but Snape's love story with Lily Potter is the defining moment of the final 'Harry Potter' movie. It's sad, emotional and a little bit scary which makes it amazing but us, but not so great for the little ones on the sofa next to you. Adults win this one!
