It's 1942, and wimpish Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) is labelled by the US Army as unfit for service and thus rejected. Determined to help fight the Nazis, Steve volunteers for a top secret project under Colonel Phillips (Tommy Lee Jones) where a serum developed by Dr Erskine (Stanley Tucci) transforms him into a super-soldier.
Reborn as Captain America, Steve's first test as a shield-slinging superhero is to thwart a Nazi plot involving the sinister HYDRA organisation, led by the evil Red Skull (Hugo Weaving). His courageous allies include Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and the famed Howling Commandos.
Watch out too for engineer Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) - better known to Marvel fans as Iron Man's dad! Rising star Chris Evans played the Human Torch in both Fantastic Four movies - he now steps up into the big league as the iconic Captain America.
