The Art of Getting By
Release date: 2 September 2011
Running time: 83 mins
Director: Gavin Wiesen
Starring: Freddie Highmore, Emma Roberts, Michael Angarano, Blair Underwood
George Zinavoy (Freddie Highmore) is coasting his way through school and while others plan for college or the prom, trenchcoat-wearing misfit George rails at the pointlessness of it all. In his final year, he's rapidly heading towards graduation without having done a stroke of work.
But his life suddenly acquires a purpose when he bonds with pretty, flirtatious Sally Howe (Emma Roberts) over their shared parent problems. The duo become firm friends as George is drawn into Sally's seductive world of glamorous parties. But will he ever be able to reveal his true feelings for her?
First-time writer/director Gavin Wiesen drew on his own experiences as an awkward adolescent for his film's truthful, heartfelt script. He has also created memorable characters for former child stars Emma Roberts and Freddie Highmore - almost unrecognisable as the lad who played Charlie in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'.
