Girls Aloud beat their male counterparts, One True Voice, to the 2002 Christmas number one with their debut single 'Sound of the Underground'. Cheryl was getting her first taste of chart success...
'Sound of the Underground' remained at number one for four consecutive weeks, and it was certified platinum in March the following year. Cheryl and the girls were quickly becoming one of the hottest pop acts in the country.
The hits kept coming. Girls Aloud followed up the 'Sound of the Underground' with a string of hit singles, including 'No Good Advice', 'Life Got Cold', and 'Jump', a cover of the Pointer Sisters' classic song.
Girls Aloud may have had a string of hit singles, but it was certainly a career highlight when they came together with Mattel in 2005 to produce Fashion Fever Barbies. Each member designed the outfit and look of a doll modelled after themselves!
