Last Christmas Wham!
Simon's verdict on Nicole Scherzinger and why he admires her for it.
Yes, bizarrely these comments are supposed to be a compliment. "I think you've proven there's nothing wrong with being selfish," Simon told Nicole at the US X-Factor launch.
"You're somebody I've admired, who has ruthlessly succeeded in their career even when you left the Pussycat girls behind. There's nothing wrong with that because it's about ambition."
Nicole said her fighting spirit was a major factor in her success: "It takes a certain breed to survive in this business. You have to be a fighter. Nobody else is going to do it for you."
The Don't Hold Your Breath star may have replaced Cheryl on the judging panel but now Simon has admitted that he may have got it wrong.
"There were a few of us who made a decision when we were filming the show that Cheryl we felt - and I probably got this wrong, and I'll admit it - was going to be more comfortable doing the UK show than the American show."
"And, you know, when you have to make decisions as a producer, you have to make hard decisions. And I'm the first to admit if you get it wrong, you have to take it on the chin," he said at the Television Critics' Association press tour.
Simon and Cheryl had been close friends and only time will tell if Chezza will forgive him.
