Richard Gere to be honoured at film festival

The 61-year-old actor will receive a special award at the upcoming Rome Film Festival.

It's been announced that Richard will receive the Marcus Aurelius career award.

The Hollywood star, whose credits include Pretty Woman and An Officer and a Gentlemen, will be the guest of honour at the film festival, which runs from October 27th to November 4th.

The award, which is designed by jewellers Bulgari, is a silver statuette in the shape of the Roman Emperor it's named after, Marcus Aurelius.

Reports suggest that celebrations will include a screening of his 1978 movie Days of Heaven and a discussion with Gere about his work on the film and the early days of his career.
