Ricky Gervais to host Golden Globes

Ricky will host the ceremony for a third time despite insulting a host of stars last year.

The 50-year-old comic caused a stir at last year's bash by poking fun at Johnny Depp's performance in The Tourist, Robert Downey Jr's previous stint in jail and giving a less-than-glamorous introduction for Tim Allen.

However, most of the celebrities managed to see the funny side of his puns, including Johnny Depp - who pretended to have a strong dislike towards Ricky when he recently starred in his new comedy Life's Too Short .

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the decision to have Gervais back for the film and TV awards in January despite saying he had "crossed the line" back in 2010.

HFPA president Dr Aida Takla O'Reilly announced: "Yes, Ricky's Back. After weeks of rumours it's finally official — Ricky Gervais will be back to host the Golden Globes."

Reports suggest Ricky received a huge majority in the voting, adding to the idea that attendees weren't' overly offended by his risqué one-liners and Gervais is said to be thrilled to be returning.

NBC's senior vice president of special events and late night programming, Doug Vaughan, said: "Ricky is delighted to be coming back.

He said the Golden Globes show is the most fun he has ever had."

The elaborate Golden Globe ceremony will take place in Beverly Hills on January 15, 2012.
