The Wombles plan Christmas single

The Wombles have announced plans to contest the Christmas number 1 spot.

They will re-release their 1974 hit Wombling Merry Christmas for the coveted festive number 1, which is often closely contested with the winner of The X-Factor.

Uncle Bulgaria explained: "I don't watch much television myself - I leave that to the young Wombles - but I hear The X Factor is jolly popular, However, W comes before X. Let's see what people think of the W Factor! It should appeal to the common people."

He added: "We think everyone needs to have a Wombling Merry Christmas this year." '

Wombling Merry Christmas  reached number two in the UK singles chart back in 1974, only time will tell if it can go one better this festive season...
