Alzheimer's Sufferer Wins Pride Of Britain Award For THIS Carpool Karaoke
You'll be able to watch Simon McDermott pick up the award at the ceremony tonight at 8pm on ITV.
Over the past few months, we've been following Ted McDermott's rise to fame as he and his son Simon became an internet sensation after they posted a video of them making their own carpool karaoke.
This video is particularly special because Ted was diagnosed with Alzheimer's three years ago. As Simon explains on his JustGiving page, Ted has become increasingly more violent (a side effect of the disease that causes damage to the brain). However, when Ted starts to sing Simon explains that it's like they've got Ted "back in the room".
Simon decided to catch a duet of him and his father singing 'Quando, Quando, Quando' on a drive around the local neighbourhood which he shared online.
As a result of the video, they raised more than £137,000 for the Alzheimer's Society, a charity which helps families who are suffering from the disease.
Their efforts were rewarded last night at the Pride of Britain Awards where they were presented with a Special Recognition awards by Sir Cliff Richard and Joan Collins.
Unfortunately, Ted was unable to be there on the night due to his illness but Simon was there to accept it on his behalf.
Not only did the video raise funds for charity but Ted has since signed a record deal with Decca Records.
He is no stranger to performing as he is an ex-Butlins Redcoat as well as being affectionally known as the 'Song-A-Minute Man'.
Listen to him perform his new single 'You Make Me Feel So Young'. You'll be blubbering before you know it.
You'll be able to watch the awards ceremony Tuesday 1st November at 8pm on ITV.
You know nothing, Jon Snow.
