The X Factor final has always been a glitzy affair, with Simon Cowell managing to pull in some huge names to sing with contestants.

He was the long-running favourite to win the show, but Matt Terry found himself fighting for a place in the final, after finding himself in the bottom two on Sunday night.

Now with just one week to go until the big day, it's claimed producers are besides themselves after having a huge name snub them for an appearance during the X Factor final on Saturday night.

It's thought telly execs had been hoping to bag Sam Smith for a duet with Matt after the 23-year-old wowed viewers with his rendition of Writings On The Wall, but now it's looking very unlikely as they scour around for last minute replacements.

"Sam loved his version so it seemed the perfect plan to put them together," a source told Daily Star.

"There’s still a slim chance but it doesn’t look like it will happen now."

Yikes!

The X Factor final has always been a glitzy affair, with Simon Cowell managing to pull in some huge names to sing with contestants.

Most memorable performances over the years have included Matt Cardle's duet with Rihanna and Alexandra Burke's performance with Beyonce.

Elsewhere, the singing competition has seen a new dark horse rise to become the bookies favourite to win the show.

Finnish star, Sara Aalto is now the set to take the crown despite being in the being-off three times and having originally been brought onto the show as a wildcard.

Now it's thought she has gained favour with British audiences following a number of stellar performances in recent weeks, including her rendition of Celine Dion 'My Heart Will Go On' last month and her cover of SIA's 'Chandelier' on Saturday night which left Sharon Osbourne speechless.
