In the summer of 1979, young Joe Lamb (Joel Courtney) and his school friends are making a super 8 zombie movie in their small Ohio town. While shooting, they witness a catastrophic collision between a truck and a speeding train. Barely escaping themselves, the teens soon discover that what they saw was no accident.
Questions about the train's mysterious cargo arise as the town is plagued by animal and human disappearances and a series of inexplicable events. Joe's father, local Deputy Jack Lamb (Kyle Chandler), challenges the military authorities as he launches an investigation. But the truth turns out to be far more astonishing than anyone could have imagined.
Two of the greatest creative minds in modern filmmaking - writer/director JJ Abrams and producer Steven Spielberg - have joined forces to deliver one of the most eagerly-anticipated and original films of the summer blockbuster season.
