Coronation Street's Longest Standing Resident Is Said To Be Leaving The Soap!
The shows longest female cast member is rumoured to be leaving the show after an extended break.
Even if you're not a regular watcher, if you've seen Coronation Street at one stage over the past fifty years you'll definitely recognise the character of Emily Bishop played by 85-year-old actress Eileen Derbyshire.
The actress has been on the cobbles since 1961 and is rumoured to be retiring after a whopping six decades on the soap!
According to The Sun, she will be leaving after being away from the show since she began a prolonged sabbatical at the end of last year.
The source told the paper 'Eileen has been off for a long time and there is no expectation that she will be back. All of her cast mates have accepted that she won't be returning'.
Eileen has been such a staple on our TV screens for the last half a century that she was honoured with an MBE in 2010 for services to drama along with fellow Corrie star Barbara Knox.
If the news is true she will certainly be missed!
