40 Commando get visit in Afghanistan

MP Nick Harvey has made his first visit to Afghanistan as Minister for the Armed Forces.

He spoke to troops serving there, including members of Somerset-based 40 Commando in Helmand Province who have lost 6 members since they were deployed to Afghanistan in April for 6 months.  He also spoke to the Scots Guard in Lashkar Gar.

He said: "I last visited Afghanistan two years ago and this trip has shown me the vast amount of progress that has been made in that time.  Under General McChrystal there have been vast changes not only militarily bit also politically.  It will be a long road but Afghanistan is on the way to being a country that stands on its own feet."
